Driving through Utah, one place you will not want to miss is Bryce Canyon National Park. This amazing canyon showcases numerous hoodoos, formations resulting from elemental effects on the native sandstone in the area. It’s mind-boggling to look down and see just how monstrous these upright giants are.
At 8000 to 9000 feet above sea level, you can get some breathtaking views of the striking wonders. I loved that we were able to see the dusting of snow as it contrasted perfectly the rich red tones of the sandstone. We got the best view at Agua Canyon. Plus, my daughter had fun making snowballs while we walked along the paved trails.
After taking in the initial awe, the whole family and have some fun by sharing what the individual hoodoos look like. Some thought the below hoodoo looked like a chair while it reminded me of a ‘thumbs up’. The natural bridge we saw was also quite beautiful but tough to capture that in a photo.
While we did explore several lookout spots on the way up the canyon, most of our travel was by car. So, despite the cold temperatures we experienced here in early April, we could conserve our energy and focus it on taking photos with the five cameras we had with us.
Bryce Canyon is a great stop along your family road trip through the area. We found that a couple of hours was plenty of time for us here. After taking a bazillion pictures at two spots, the view was basically the same or less interesting than the one we got at Agua Canyon. I’m sure there’s more to do but, for our group of five, just witnessing this fantastic sight and the mini-avalanche atop one of the peaks created a memory that was ‘just right’.

Spectacular!! I don’t think I’ve ever been there but I remember seeing similar formations at a place called Needle point? or something like than on a family trip as a kid. So pretty!
I think there are several such places but this is the largest collection in one place. Where’s Needle Point?
I wish I knew! I was really young when we went and all I remember is driving thorough winding roads that had tall “needle like” pillars of rock all around and my dad saying were were in Needle Point or Needle park or something like that! Your photos reminded me of it 🙂

OMG! Where you hubby was standing is exactly where we took pictures last year when we went. That park is amazing and it was extremely hot during the day. We drove through California, Nevada into Utah last year and decided we wanted to see Bryce Canyon. It was amazing and the views were to die for. I am super afraid of heights so the railing was my friend. Great pictures and glad you had a great time. Next stop for us: Yellowstone!

Thanks! I’m anxious to hear what types of trips you end up doing. I think this was the biggest road trip I had ever done and don’t know if I’ll be up for another any time soon. I’m much more of a fly/drive to one or two places and stay for a while.
Great shots! There is a lot to do in the area, both high and low elevations. Consider coming back and staying a few days. My cabin is right between Zion and Bryce, so you could explore both! They are different parks.
Thank you for the offer! We only got to drive through Zion so I’d love to go back and spend some more time there. We stayed a little motel in Kanab and by little I mean teeny, tiny rooms! I’d love to check your place out some day!
