Maker Faire & Toyota RAV4 EV Ticket Giveaway…

2013 Maker Faire in San Mateo CaliforniaIf you haven’t already, clear out your schedule for this weekend so you can attend the 2013 Maker Faire! On May 18th to 19th at the San Mateo County Event Center, inventors from all over to showcase their ingenuity and creativity in tons of fun ways.
One such ‘maker’ will be Toyota, who will be having a special event featuring the RAV4 EV, the latest electric car from Toyota only sold in California. Here are just a few of the activities you’ll find at Toyota’s booth:

  • Explore the RAV4 EV and speak with Executive Program Manager Sheldon Brown
  • Participate in the bicycle-powered slot car track (photo below)!
  • “Recharge” at The Maker Lounge with wi-fi and power outlets

I’m sure the “recharge” station will be a big hit with all the Facebook posts and Instagramming that will be going on! In previous years, the Maker Faire always fell on dates that my family had other plans.I really hope that, this time, we can take advantage of all the fun the fair will have to offer.

From now until May 7th, the virtual world of Club Penguin/a> is again joining forces with Marvel in the 2013 Marvel Super Hero Takeover. Kids can choose from over 25 costumes of Super Heroes like Iron Man, Captain America, and Spiderman or of Super Villains including Loki and the Mandarin.

“Last year’s partnership event with Marvel was extremely popular, and at that time, became the most-trafficked event in our history,” said Chris Heatherly, Vice President and General Manager, Disney Interactive Worlds. “This year we’ve made the Marvel Super Hero Takeover Event even more epic for players with twice the amount of Marvel Super Hero and Super Villain costume options and deeper, more action-packed gameplay and storylines.”

“The fan reaction from last year’s Marvel Super Hero Takeover was tremendous, so we are excited to once again give fans the opportunity to dress up as their favorite Marvel Super Heroes in Club Penguin,” said Andreea Enache-Thune, Senior Vice-President of Marvel Games. “This year we were able to expand upon last year’s offering by including cool new costumes from our upcoming Marvel animated series on Disney XD.”

My daughter was more than excited to jump on board. The first thing she did after we signed up was grab her own Iron Man costume! She’s having a BLAST playing, in more ways than one!

Use Safeway Gas Reward Points at Chevron

Last year, I was so excited that I could use my Safeway Rewards to save on gas. However, the no Safeway stores in my area had gas stations. Boo :( Well, yippie-kay-eh as I just found out that Chevron is now apart of this program, allowing more Northern California residents to join in!

Now I can take advantage of the savings too, and that I have. I just shopped at Safeway like I normally do, scanned my Club Card (I actually entered in my phone number to call up my account), and any points I got were automatically tacked to my account. The next time my family needed to fill up our tank, we pulled into a nearby Chevron. It asked if we had a Safeway discount and for our linked phone number. Voila! Our discount was applied right there and then.

At participating Chevron (and Texaco) locations, you can save up to 20 cents per gallon. If you’re fortunate enough to live a Safeway Gas Station, then you get to save a whopping $1 per gallon!

With my husband and I traveling most of last week, we had to postpone any plans to celebrate our 13th anniversary. It was a bummer but sometimes these things happen. So, after settling back in, we went to eat a nice family dinner at Olive Garden this past Sunday. We only go to Olive Garden once in a while as a special treat. It’s got a great selection of rich Italian food and the workers are generally friendly and upbeat.

The place was packed with a 25-minute wait. There were three available seats at the bar area so we just opted to eat there. This ended up working out for the best as we had awesome service and it was pretty cool watching the bartenders at work.

I can’t blame her – those things are DELISH!

Yogurtland Mobile App with Frozen Yogurt Flavor FinderLast summer a new frozen yogurt shop opened in our area, Yogurtland (originally a So. Cal. chain). Well, dozens of fro-yo shops opened but this one we actually liked. Our first visit, my family and I already found what we decided would be our favorite flavors. We returned several days later only to find the flavors had changed. We were kind of bummed that they didn’t have our favorites and we weren’t as fond of that week’s offerings. Not knowing what flavors they currently had prevented us from going more often. That’s all going to change now!

The new Yogurtland mobile app (iOS & Android) will keep me up-to-date on the featured flavors of the day and help me earn free frozen yogurt – yay!

Yogurtland’s new mobile app complements the Flavor Quest promotion and has a Flavor Finder feature that allows guests to find their favorite flavor at the Yogurtland nearest them. The app has three ways to search flavors. First by searching the flavor name, second by using a location to search flavors nearby, and the third way is to the find the location of the nearest Yogurtland and see what flavors are currently being served.

The Flavor Finder will be updated daily to provide real-time information about which flavors are being served at Yogurtland shops across the country.

During the Flavor Quest promotion, guests can use the app to scan the QR code on the flavor cards posted in stores. After scanning five new flavors (only one scan per flavor and one scan per day), fans will earn 5 free ounces of yogurt. After scanning all 10 flavors, guests receive 10 ounces free and will be entered for a chance to win free yogurt for a year. Guests can also use the app to name, describe and share their frozen yogurt creation through social media outlets.

World Series of YAHTZEE Board Game

World Series of YAHTZEE Board Game, Item Provided For Honest Review…

Have you ever played YAHTZEE? When I was little, our family had the game but we never played. All I knew was that it had little cups to roll dice in. As with other Hasbro games, Yahtzee is getting a fresh new look and updated game play as is being released as “World Series of Yahtzee Board Game“.

The World Series of YAHTZEE is extremely fast-paced and is meant for ages 8 and up. Be warned that you need to move quick and think even quicker to keep up in the game. If you child can do this, then they’ll be fine holding their own during the game. Two to four players can play at once and get their own set of five dice.

Players must roll their dice to match the combinations shown on the board. When they get one, they have to ‘buzz’ in by pushing their button on the console. Other players have five seconds to get a match and buzz in too. Each take the card with their matching combo and a new round begins. The game ends when there are no more cards and the player with the highest amount of points wins.

At first, we were a little confused by the rules. After one trial run, though, we got the hang of it and had a blast playing. The only downside is that it gets very intense and we were all sweating after two games. Frans said, “It’s good exercise for your mind and body.” Very astute, right?

World Series of Yahtzee Board Game from Hasbro

The official description of the World Series of YAHTZEE says that it’s casino-inspired. The only comparison I saw was the design of the cards and the names of straight, full house, etc. I’ve never gambled so I can’t say for certain that there aren’t more similarities.
