Making the Bathroom Guest Ready – DIY Cover for Kleenex Hand Towels

DIY Cover Tutorial for Bathroom Box Holder…

What is the one thing you try to keep nice just in case someone you know pops by? The bathroom! You never know when a friend will be knocking on your door needing to use the bathroom…and fast! One thing I like to keep in our guest bathroom is Kleenex Hand Towels – they are so much more sanitary. No more worrying that you forgot to change the hand towel and that it might smell sour, causing great embarrassment. On the flip side, not everyone washes their hands the way they should (at least 30 seconds with soap) so this keeps your family free of germs as well. Kleenex Hand Towels only come in two package colors though. Why not make a custom cover for it?

Here’s an easy way to make Kleenex Hand Towels a staple in your bathroom and use it as a decorative accent at the same time.

Did you get that? Don’t worry, the steps are as follows:

  1. Outline the sides (except for the bottom) on some cardboard.
  2. Cut the pieces using a scissor or exacto knife.
  3. Glue your desired fabric or paper to the cardboard.
  4. A hot glue gun can be used to cover and secure the edges.
  5. Use the glue gun to attach the sides and top.
  6. Apply decoupage to seal the cover and create a nice finish. Add a second coat if desired.

It didn’t turn out perfect but it was still pretty good considering that I made it when my daughter had a sleepover and I had to stay up until 2:30 in the morning to finish it! For the box cover, I took a photo of my shower curtain and, after cleaning it up a bit, I printed it on cardstock using my inkjet. The only problem was that the ink smudged a bit when adding the decoupage. After the cover is dry, just pop it over the box of Kleenex Hand Towels until it’s time to put a new box in. All in all, I think it’s kind of cute in my bathroom, don’t you?

All I have to do is add a few more accessories and my guest bathroom will be complete. It’s a good thing too because we’re having company next week!

We are working on beautifying our guest bathroom as I type this. Actually, there are a few boards of paneling under my feet as I type this! YIKES! We’ve got to get this together! Love your decorative box!

That is awesome! I don’t have a guest room to decorate but love the idea for my own bathroom!

This is the first time we’ve had a second/guest bathroom ourselves. If you do end up doing a similar project, I’d love to see what you come up with!

What a cute idea! I love how easy that was and matches perfectly!

Thanks. I may make another one in the future and actually measure the pieces a bit better 🙂

How do you do the top panel (where the towels come out), so it looks neat?
I’m using peach fabric to match my Mom’s bathroom.

Ooh, that will be cute! When you get a new box, there’s a perforated cardboard piece over the opening. Tear off that piece off and use it as a guide to trace the shape. Then, use an exacto knife to cut the hole in your cover piece. When covering the rounded side, cut a few slits to better fit around the opening. Hope that helps!

Love, love, love. this. We use Kleenex hand towels exclusively and I know we have been sick less times than when we used cloth hand towels. I am tired of the box colors though. I want something pretty for Easter. Something spring like. Your’s is darling. Thank you!

Aww, you’re welcome — I glad you like it. Yes, it’s nice to be able to change it up and for the box to match your current bathroom decor. 🙂
