How I’m Better Than Ever!

by TerriAnn

TwitterMoms prompted a question about how life is different after children. The answer for me? Very much so!

My husband and I never planned on having children. Yet, two weeks after we got married I got pregnant. We love our little girl and wouldn’t change anything. But there have been a lot of changes!

Amusement park rides to merry-go-rounds, high heels for slip-on clogs, matching purses to pastel-colored diaper bags, changing accessories for changing diapers. Yes, the list goes on and on. I would never had imagined that we would have a bright pink room in our house are that I would be humming the theme songs to my daughter’s cartoons and jamming to Taylor Swift. But not all of the changes ‘kid-ified’ my life. In many ways I believe it rounded me out more as a complete person. How?

Knowing that you have someone who unconditionally relies on you does wonders in what you can accomplish. One time I was helping a single friend with her groceries. She only brought in one bag at a time. You know how they pack those bags at the grocery store – one small item in each bag. Well I grabbed the rest, 5-7 bags in each hand and brought the rest in in one trip. She was amazed but as a mother, you have a small child with you and cannot make 3 or 4 trips back to the car for groceries. I can fix almost everything because my daughter has a destructive touch. Somehow, everything she touched would break.

I no longer feel that I need to keep busy with parties and gatherings but, rather, am content on spending time with my own small family. We just play games, go to the beach, watch movies, and are happy just picnicking in the backyard. Even when my daughter goes for a sleep-over and my husband and I have time to ourselves, we constantly think of her and how she’s missing the fun we are experiencing without her. My conversation also revolves around her development and personality.

I’m not just a woman but I’m a mom – and proud of it!

Great post. I feel the same way. I have two children. It’s amazing how much differently my life is post-marriage. In some ways I miss the old me but in other ways I enjoy the current me so much more.

Good luck on the contest.

My daughter says that people without children are sad and that they are missing out ^_^
