How to be Better Parents & Grow Happy Families – Kinsights Online Community

Kinsights - Online community for parents local and distant

It’s tough raising a child. Period. And, as they get older, it gets even more difficult to train them and keep them entertained. There are also medical-related questions that all parents, at one point, will wonder about such as how high a fever should go before taking the little one(s) to the doctor or how to talk to them about their changing bodies.

Frans and I have been fortunate in that our parents have been right there for us whenever we had questions or concerns. However, we still turned to the internet to figure out local destinations for family field trips or short staycations. Even now we are constantly struggling for new ideas in caring for our daughter that recently entered the teenage years.

Recently, I joined a community known as Kinsights. Now, I’ve never been one to join mom groups or things of that nature but this is different. It’s an online community where parents can go for questions and suggestions concerning their kids. It’s such a great parenting resource! I like the fact that you have to be registered to see people’s names and info. Any extra security measure to keep out weirdos is okay in my book.

Registration is free. It gives you access to really jump into the community to see all the posts and to interact on them. When creating your profile, you can enter where you are, the ages of your children, and if there any health issues they might have. This helps in filtering for answers and topic. I added that my daughter is 13 years old and has eczema so I can opt to add this to my posts. Other information like developmental milestones and vaccinations can be stored here for personal use.

As you use the site, there are bound to be topics that come up which are especially applicable to your family and commenters whose advice you tend to favor. In those cases you can select people to follow and add conversations to your list of ‘favorites’. To find those of similar interests, whether it be based on location or family makeup, you can join or start groups.

So far, I’ve been impressed by the tone found in the community. Other users are helpful and, above all, respectful. I’ve had some of my own questions answered as well as shared my experience thus far with others. Being able to communicate with other parents in different places and in different situations really helps in figuring out what works for your own family. You can vote or ‘accept’ comments that you find particularly helpful too.

It’s nice to know that the people in the community are respectful. There’s nothing worse than looking for an answer for something you are dealing with and having rudeness spewed at you.

I need to check it out. I have an 11-year old (tween) and need to be prepared for these pre-teen years. Sigh.

Sounds like a great community! I know parenting can be rough at times and always nice to get another opinion for another parent that has dealt or dealing with the same issue!
