McArthur-Burney Falls Memorial State Park in California - Waterfall #Photography #Travel

During our past road trip, we took a slight detour to visit McArthur-Burney Falls Memorial State Park. That slight detour resulted in an extra couple of hours tacked onto our drive. It as well worth it. The natural beauty, known as Burney Falls, was gorgeous and I just couldn’t seem to get enough of it. Can you spot me in the photo below just taking it all in?

Burney Falls – Nature Photography

Despite living in California most of my life, I had never heard of Burney Falls. My husband happened to come across it while doing some travel research for our trip. President Theodore Roosevelt was quoted to have called these the “Eighth Wonder of the World”. Apparently, the river used to go out another mile or so but erosion pushed the falls back. I can’t imagine how beautiful it must have been then.

I loved that there weren’t any crowds and it was only a 0.3 mile ‘hike’ to the base. One day we’ll have to make arrangements to camp out here. What a local treasure!

Do you have any hidden gems like this near you?

That is gorgeous. We’re still exploring our community and neighborhood here in North Texas, but we’ve found a few neat places that we are starting to bring guests to whenever they visit.

I suspect there are more things like this on the eastern side of the state in the mountainous region. LOVE that it was such a short hike to that beauty!

That waterfall is amazing! I love hikes that lead to a waterfalls… I wonder if there is a waterfall in every state? If so, I’d love to visit at least one waterfall in every state. 🙂
