While road trips are pretty economical and are a fantastic way to visit many spots on one vacation, they’re not the easiest manner of travel. The main driver(s) end up pooped by the end of each leg of the trip while the others constantly fight boredom. Then there’s the whole “everyone squished in the car” syndrome with achy muscles and lack of personal space. Have you ever considered taking your next family vacation via bus? I never considered travel by bus until recently.

Okay, just to be clear, I’m not talking about your standard city bus. When I talk about long-distance travel buy bus I’m referring to the double-decker buses of Megabus.com that have Wi-Fi, power outlets, seat belts, restrooms, reserved seating, and more. How great of a family vacation would it be if everyone spread out and enjoy the ride together?!

Megabus.com Now w/ GreenRoad Tech

Plus, Megabus.com and Coach USA are revolutionizing their buses and offering a new option for road travel. The new GreenRoad system will be installed in their 2,400 buses across the country. Not only is this new system better on the environment but it will also improve passenger comfort and reduce the risk of accidents. Seems like a win-win-win plan to me.

What is GreenRoad? It’s a new technology identified by a traffic lights-style indicator on the dashboard. The red (bad), yellow (not too good), and green (great) lights signal real-time feedback on the driver’s performance including speed, braking, acceleration, turning, etc. This is also relayed back to the company so they can quickly identify and followup on any yellow and red alerts. That means you have a whole team looking out for your safety!

Green Driver Incentive Program – Better for Everyone

Drivers that are regularly in the “green” zone will be rewarded too. With the Green Driver incentive program, drivers can gain points for their safe and efficient driving. These points add up so drivers can benefit from the potential $1,000,000 annual bonus pool that’s available. The drivers are already go through a training program but this will be even more of a push for drivers to transport riders as safely as possible.

With all the mention of “green” you might be wondering what improvements are involved environmentally. The Greenroad Eco-Driving Technology has an engine idling monitor to improve fuel performance. It can differentiate between idling at a traffic light or at intersections and unnecessary idling, helping to identify and minimize the environmental impact. All of this has already been tested overseas and Megabus.com has found that, “Green Driver is good for passengers, good for drivers, and great for our environment!”
