The 2014 Hyundai Elantra GT is a fun, zippy car that performs when it needs to but saves you where it can. The GT (hatchback model) is especially sporty-looking and a model you’d be proud showing off. With a starting price tag under $20K and fuel economy averaging at 28 MPG with a manual transmission / stick-shift, it’s a compact car that’s functional, reasonable, and a blast to drive. Test driving for this 2014 Hyundai Elantra review was more of a perk than a job.

One-week vehicle loan was provided for review purposes. All opinions are my own.

### 2014 Hyundai Elantra Review

A few months ago, one of my brothers-in-law rented a Hyundai Elantra for a trip. Usually he hates rental cars but this was the first one that he actually raved about liking so much. Now I know why.

The Elantra just drives so smoothly and is perfectly responsive. Shifting gears is seamless and the power is constantly good but delivers when you need it. Frans had so much fun driving this that he kept offering to do errands just so he could take it for a spin. That was definitely A-OK with me!

On top of that, the GT model (hatchback) just looks so stinkin’ sweet! Even the interior is nice and modern.

I also loved that the covers for the panoramic sunroof opened in opposite directions from the middle, giving you a full view out the top. It was fast too!

The body style is reminiscent of the Lexus CT 200h but has much softer lines and costs a whole lot less. Every time I see a new Elantra GT on the road, I can’t help but stare at it a little – it’s that pretty. The sedan is still okay but it’s the GT that really floats my boat.

### Cost and Functionality

Standard features include selectable steering modes (depends how heavy you like the steering), Bluetooth, keyless entry, heated mirrors, and heated front seats. The leather seats, driver’s lumbar support, dual temperature, and navigation with rearview camera did pop the price up another $5,000 but are worth the extra in the long run. Plus, I have a heightened appreciation for the Elantra after visiting the [Hyundai manufacturing plant in Alabama](http://www.drivingmamas.com/2015-sonata-hyundai-usa-alabama/?ref=cookiesandclogs.com) where they’re made and meeting some of the people who put them together.

Leg room in the back is a little lacking. If my husband of 5′ 11″ with long legs is driving my 5′ 2″ daughter can barely fit in the seat behind him. Behind my short self, she’s fine. So, if long legs are involved you might have to consider who will be riding behind them and how often. The seatbelt latches also stick out in the back row so make sure you get in carefully or risk a bruise. Still, I’d highly recommend looking into this dependable hatchback as a stylish commuting staple.

The 2014 Hyundai Elantra GT is a solid buy. It will fit most day-to-day needs of a family for city driving and/or longer road trips and won’t break the bank!
