“Sporty station wagon” might sound like an oxymoron to some but it does exist. The 2015 Volvo V60 R-Design takes all the great features of the regular V60 and soups it up a bit with sport handling, suspension, and details. The bright red model we drove with brushed chrome and black rims did help complete the look.

2015 Volvo V60 – A Sporty Station Wagon?

As a staple of the Volvo line, the V60 does not disappoint. It feels safe and solid while you feel in full control. The station wagon design offers the driving ease of a sedan but has added cargo space thanks to the extra height.

The V60 presents a decent ride but it’s deceptively powerful. The 6-cylinder engine (V6) shifts smoothly and is extremely responsive. After coming home from work Frans said, “It’s amazing. When you’re going 80 (mph) and then you speed up to change lanes, it just goes.” I try not to think about how he knows that…

Handling is good and turning radius is average. Controls are pretty much the same as the Volvo S60 so that’s a good thing. LOVE the middle console that opens all the way up! I only wish the blind spot monitoring signal was in a less conspicuous place as it can get irritating while driving. The adaptive cruise control worked perfectly, even in rush hour traffic.

If you didn’t already know, there’s a special app that works with Volvo cars such as this one called Volvo on Call. Using your smartphone, you can check the temperature inside the car, see the overall car status, start the engine remotely, lock the doors, and heat or cool the car before getting in. I always forget whether I’ve locked the car or not so being able to check it using my phone is awesome.

Seating is narrow to average in terms of width and leg room. Again, the V60 is much like it’s cousin sedan with the exception of the trunk versus open cargo area. A more petite family would be comfortable in this and there’s plenty of space for 1-2 dogs.

2015 Volvo V60 Review

For those that have been eagerly awaiting the return of the station wagon, they will be pleased with the latest 2015 Volvo V60. Choosing a sportier trim will allow for the functionality without sacrificing looks or power. However, be aware that the extra space is only applied to the cargo area and not to the main cabin. Make sure you get in and test drive this vehicle together with your regular-riding passengers to make sure it’s a good fit.
