Needing To Exhale

by TerriAnn

Not too long ago there was a segment on Dr. Oz about how to keep skin moisturized and it was mentioned that staying in a hot shower for more than 10-15 minutes or so can dry it out. When asking the ‘expert’ about this, she had no idea why people would stay in the shower for any length of time as she just gets in, cleans, then gets out. I know why – it feels so good! Plus, at least for me, it’s the only place I can have some kind of quiet time to myself.

Shower ShowerheadNo matter how much my daughter says, “I’m bored!” or how much my dog whimpers for attention they just have to wait until I get out. For those 20 minutes I can just go at my own pace and not have to think constantly about what I have to do next. Actually, it’s when I’m in there that I get my best ideas and finally have some mental clarity. Yes, I know all about conserving water and everything but, for just a short part of the day, it’s nice to let that massaging showerhead flow with no kids, pets, or emails to interrupt. It’s like a mini-vacation for me where I can decompress.

Some might enjoy a good book, others might treat themselves to flowers from Interflora, while still others savor that first sip of hot coffee in the morning. What little things or moments help you recharge during the day?

I’m so quick with my showers because I’m usually really late to get to it before I have to leave the house or something!

Haha – I have those days too. My daughter says, “Why do you always have to take a shower right before I have gymnastics?!” because we’re usually late 😛
