It’s no secret that I’m a total Marvel fan-girl. From my teenage years until now, I’ve always preferred the stories and characters from the Marvel universe over those of other comic book companies. This is why I’m especially surprised at myself for binge watching a couple of tv series from DC Comics.

DC Comics The Flash on Netflix Streaming

The other day I logged into Netflix to see if there were any interesting series to start or catch up on. I decided to skip the Marvel series created exclusively for Netflix (Jessica Jones and Daredevil) because the tone of those series are darker and more violent than their movie and television cousins. But then another series caught my attention—The Flash.

Not too long ago, my daughter’s friends were going on and on about how much their family like The Flash and the many characters featured in it. Their enthusiasm came to mind when a preview of the show popped up on Netflix. Plus, I was intrigued by the fact that the first season of The Flash was actually rated 5 out of 5 stars by other viewers.

After watching the first couple episodes, I was hooked. Much of the story is predictable, actors seem more suited to a tween show, the effects are unpolished, and most bits are cliché. However, it’s really entertaining! My family and I can’t help but laugh the cornier the episodes are. We crack up everyone someone enters through a doorway to add key information to an ongoing conversation (as if they were listening the whole time but just waited for the right moment to go in and interject a thought).

The series is also presented in a way that make you want to keep watching, mainly to find out the real objective of the main doctor. My curiosity drove me to google some spoilers and, even though I have a good idea of what will happen at the end, I still look forward to watching the rest of the season.

DC Comics Arrow on Netflix Streaming

As if that wasn’t enough, I am also starting to watch Arrow. This series is much grittier than The Flash and I’m not sure if I’ll continue it. However, the connection between the series and the crossover episodes are enough to at least give it a few more episodes. Ah, how I love adventure/mystery/superhero series!

So there you have it. This Marvel fan-girl is actually enjoying a couple of DC Comics television series. Stranger things have happened but this is definitely something unexpected for me. I blame it on the change of weather 😛

What new shows or movies are you currently watching?

I received a year subscription of Netflix and a device to stream the content as part of the Netflix Stream Team. All opinions are my own.
