Drawing! Some people love it, some hate it. Some are good at it, maybe even spectacular. While others are, uhm, not so good. For me, I love to draw and I’m not completely bad at it. I usually only draw for fun, but I have had a few classes in the past. My mom decided that I should try this [drawing game](http://artacademy.nintendo.com/disney/?ref=cookiesandclogs.com) called Disney Art Academy. She thought it would help teach me some advanced techniques, such as shading. So, she put me to work by making me play video games. Such hard woooork…

### Playing Disney Art Academy

When the game starts, you join an art class consisting of two siblings (the classmates) and their uncle (the teacher). You will then begin a tutorial to draw either Minnie or Mickey. The teacher walks you through the steps. At the end of the lesson, you see your masterpiece. Then, one of the two siblings will show their artwork. It’s so bad that it’s funny! That’s to be expected since the purpose of showing their drawing is to show what *not* to do.

### Pictures and Lessons

After the tutorial, you can choose expressions and portraits. As you slowly progress through the game, you will get another teacher and unlock more lessons, tools, and paintings to choose from in the free paint section. Altogether, there are [over 80 Disney and Pixar pictures](http://artacademy.nintendo.com/disney/?ref=cookiesandclogs.com) to draw and 40 different lessons! The lessons come in four skill levels.

- Starter – Learn to draw Mickey or Minnie
- Beginner – Get to know the drawing tools
- Intermediate – Use advanced shapes and new elements such as shading
- Advanced – Use layers to create depth

### Disney Art Academy Pros and Cons

One pro is that my mom was right about the Disney Art Academy teaching things. So far, I have learned tips were about the color theory, silhouettes, and shading. There’s also something that, if your child has been playing for a while, it will tell the kid and suggest taking a break. This is good so that they (I) don’t spend too much time in the game.

A con is that it is a bit slow. There’s nothing to do but draw. No silly animations, no mini-games, nothing. This might be good for those kids that really, really, REALLY love to draw though. Another negative is that you usually just follow outlines. If you want, though, you can draw outside of the lines and go crazy. It may not look as good but it’s nice to have that freedom.

Overall, this game is nice for kids that love Disney and drawing. It doesn’t have a plot or any action but it could still be a nice and relaxing game during the summer to pass time!

Art can be shared to Miiverse or social media using the Nintendo 3DS Image Share tool. It is also saved to the 3DS system’s SD card so you can upload it to your computer and print the drawings out. Magic Brush is a new tool that adds fun with stars, clouds, and glitter. Disney Art Academy [retails for $29.99](http://amzn.to/1YwhKS8?ref=cookiesandclogs.com) and is available for Nintendo 3DS.
