Don’t Regret Anything This Shopping Season #LifeLock

by TerriAnn

I don’t like shopping. In fact, I quite dread it unless it’s for shoes. It all stems from my childhood days of being dragged from store to store for countless hours with my mom and three older sisters. I was sooooo bored. The only difference between then and now is the fact that, as the wife and mother of the family, I’m forced to shop on a regular basis. I still hate doing it but a mom’s gotta do what a mom’s gotta do. Once a year, around this time, that all changes.

Black Friday, the biggest shopping day immediately following Thanksgiving Day, is really something I look forward to. Starting mid-October, I begin planning and comparing. It’s such a thrill to scour for leaked ads, map out my plan of action, and sniff out those 70-90% off steals. When the big day rolls around, I’m up all night and day for ‘doorbusters’ at retail stores and online lightening deals.

In years past I’ve gotten full winter wardrobes for my family, a television, a washing machine, a grill, and more. I’m useless by the time weekend comes but the deals I get on this one day usually last us the next year and then some. Plus, I use those couple of days in between to rest up and get some strength back for Cyber Monday. It’s not quite as eventful but has been getting better in recent years with some noteworthy offers.

The more we pull out our wallet or credit cards, though, the more vulnerable we might be to the threat of identity theft. The frenzy of shoppers and influx of transactions may make it easier for an account number or two to be leaked or compromised. If something were to happen, which I certainly hope it doesn’t, the sooner we catch it the better.

I’ve come to really appreciate the text and email alerts I receive from LifeLock. As soon as suspicious activity is detected, I am notified to either verify it was initiated by me or if an unauthorized party is trying to gain access. While I’m battling for rock-bottom prices, this is just one less thing I need to worry about.

For more tips to stay safe while shopping, be sure to regularly visit the LifeLock for Life Sweepstakes page. You can enter for fantastic monthly prizes as well as learn helpful hints such as using different passwords and emails for various accounts and that using a credit card is safer than using a debit card.

Happy (safe) shopping!

Good for you, you doorbuster you! I stick to cyber Monday, at least while the kids are so little. 🙂 Hopefully when they are older I can recruit them for Black Friday or at least leave them with Dad!

Well, it has been getting crazier and I’m not THAT desperate to get good deals. I’m a ‘stalk Amazon’s lightening deal’ kind of girl. BTW, I’ve seen people with little kids in BF lines before – cruel for the kids and cruel to others hearing them whine in boredom and from being cold.
