The Great Mouse Detective: Mystery in the Mist Edition [DVD/Blu-Ray]

by TerriAnn

A few weeks ago, my daughter was asking to watch this movie. It turned out to be perfect timing as The Great Mouse Detective: Mystery in the Mist Edition was about to be released on Blu-ray/DVD. The Great Mouse Detective is a subtle classic.

Though it does not carry the fame that other animated Disney films do, this charming story stands on its own as a must-have for your family’s movie collection. Mystery, humor, and a bit of ‘aww’ are mixed together to create a show your kids will want to watch again and again.

When the diabolical Professor Ratigan kidnaps London’s master toymaker, the brilliant Basil of Baker Street and his trusted sidekick Dawson try to elude the ultimate trap and foil the perfect crime. This family classic on Disney Blu-ray proves big heroes come in small packages.

The plot follows the typical Sherlock and Watson formula but miniaturizes them as mice, though still in a human world. Especially fun is the chemistry between the ever so clever detective and the little girl he can’t help but become fond of. If you’ve never seen this movie, take a peek at this clip:

The 2-Disc Blu-ray Combo Pack and HD Digital is now available and includes the following bonus features:

  • So You Think You Can Sleuth” – Viewers get an introduction to private investigating to kick off the “Great Mouse Detective” film.
  • The World’s Greatest Criminal Mind” Sing-A-Long Song – young fans can sing along with Vincent Price to the song’s villainous vocals.
  • The Making of the Great Mouse Detective” – In this bonus feature, fans get a behind the scenes look at this classic film.

I only saw it for the first time a few years ago with my daughter. Although, my husband remembers seeing previews of it in his Donald Duck comics in the Netherlands way back!
