Music from Teen Beach Movie and Teen Beach Movie 2 have been on repeat in my house for months. Something about the upbeat and sugary-sweet pop style resonated with my daughter and she knows almost all of the words, even to nonsensical lyrics of “This is How We Do.” You can imagine her excitement when I told her that Just Dance Disney Party 2 was coming. It’s the fusion of a game she already enjoys with music she knows by heart — a perfect tween/young teen hit!
Just Dance Disney Party 2 Review — Music & Theming
Just Dance Disney Party 2 features music from various Disney Channel series. Television show favorites from series like Austin & Ally, Liv & Maddie, Violetta, K.C. Undercover, and Girl Meets World are included. Disney Channel Original Movie songs come from both Teen Beach Movie films and the more recent Descendants. Players can will use avatar versions of their favorite characters and can compete to get the best score.
The background and costumes for dances resemble the setting of the tv show or movie the specific song is from. For example, “Gotta Be Me” is set in at a school dance with outfits similar to those worn in the Teen Beach Movie 2. Munchkin was hoping for the original actors to reprise their roles as main dancers but they did not 😛
Just Dance Disney Party 2 Review — Dancing
Instead of abstract dancers with overexposed lighting making their faces hard to see, Just Dance Disney Party 2 just shows the dancers normally. This was an adjustment for Munchkin since she found these ones more distracting to follow. Most of the dancers seem around 13-16 years old too. I guess it’s similar to listening to original music and then listening to the Kidz Bop version. If you’re already used to the gameplay in the first Just Dance Disney Party, then this is very similar.
Choreography matches that of the musical scenes your kids are familiar with. These can be tough to follow, especially since there are many dancers on the screen at times and it can get confusing. Also, since most of the songs have a pretty fast tempo, the moves go by really fast! The scoring is pretty subjective but it’s about having fun with friends anyway so that’s not a big deal.
Both Munchkin and I struggled with the dances in this game. They just don’t have the ease or the repetition that the other Just Dance games do. Some strings of moves are way too long to remember! Also, since Munchkin was only familiar with the songs from Teen Beach Beach Movie 1 and 2, there wasn’t really enough content to keep her interested.
If your tweens are fans of Disney Channel sitcoms and movies, they’ll probably enjoy Just Dance Disney Party 2. There are plenty of songs to choose from and a good variety of moves and visuals. Parents will be happy their tweens are up and moving but won’t have to worry about questionable songs or dance moves in Just Dance Disney Party 2. That’s a win-win for many families.
