Are you tired of those standard economy hotel rooms? I am but that’s usually all we can afford. If we are really splurging, we might spend $125/night, but even that will only score us a two-star chain hotel. That usually means a generic room with no amenities and somewhere on the outskirts of town. Our only requirement is that it is clean but what can you expect from cost-cutting hotels?

I have recently been introduced to another option. Warning: when you see the screenshots on Roomorama you will want to book your next vacation immediately. At least that was my first reaction.

Roomorama connects individual property owners with prospective short-term renters. Whether you are looking for a weekend getaway or a month-long retreat, rooms and suites to fit your needs and style can be found.

I love the ease of navigating the site. Especially when families are traveling with their children, we need to see right away how many separated bedrooms there are, the specific beds included, and max number of occupants. There’s even an option to choose a place that is children friendly or allows pets. You can also narrow your search by amenities such as provided linens/towels, laundry, pool, or free cleaning.

Can’t find an exact fit? Then post a ‘Shout Out’. Send a message with the specifics you are looking for and need and hosts can contact you to make an offer. Current shout outs include lodging in Boston, Chicago, and Rome. Members (free) can also benefit from the Perks program to save up to 60% off local businesses and services.

Since I live 20 minutes from San Francisco and 30 from San Jose, I’ve never really stayed at any local hotels. That meant that I had no suggestions to friends or readers of where to stay in the Bay Area. Now I can direct them to all the variety available at Roomorama. I have quite a few on my wish-list for the next ‘date’ with my husband.

I love this intro video:
