""Ever since we discovered National Geographic Kids some four years ago, my daughter has been in love. The pictures are amazing, the facts entertaining, and I like the fact that the numerous activities keep her busy! Put all that goodness together in one book and you have the National Geographic Kids Almanac.

We were so thrilled with the release last year but National Geographic Kids Almanac 2012 just hit shelves last week. It does not disappoint! My daughter was glued to the pages for days. We finally got her to take a break but she bookmarked her place to continue next time.

So much rich content is included. My daughter is always surprising me with new facts and fun trivia. I had no idea about Fathead Sculpin Fish – weird! After you are done learning about Mr. Blobby (pictured below) you can discover a new feature included in this edition. Each chapter has a code that can be scanned by your smartphone to uncover more fun. Your child will enjoy the extra videos, facts, games and more.

""""

Fortunately, everything is sorted by category/subject. The almanac includes such topics as Amazing Animals, Super Science, Wonders of Nature, and Awesome Adventure. As always, the photos are amazing. There’s even a whole section dedicated to games.

For those that already subscribe to the magazine, you may find some duplicate articles and games. Yet, so much new information is contained that you’ll barely notice. Also, my daughter (who has an impeccable memory when it comes to stuff like this) did notice about three pages that were in the 2011 edition too. With all that in mind my daughter still enjoys this one and adopted it into her library.

""

So no matter what your plans are this summer, pick this one up to keep those little minds active! Trust me, you won’t be hearing ‘I’m bored’ for quite a while after getting this book in your kids’ hands.
