“I’m bored!”

“What should we do now?”

“Can I watch tv?”

“Will you play with me?”

No doubt you’ve heard those several times so far this summer. Even though I homeschool my daughter, the summer break still means oodles of free time that would generally be dedicated to study. We are taking more day trips and having more playdates for her but we can’t do that all the time. After all, a break for her means a break for me as well. I want some quiet time too.

I’m so glad we had this Fashion Headbands kit by Creativity for Kids on hand. We had five girls (ages 7-10) full of energy and sitting through the movie at the theater just make them more antsy. This was one day I was not feeling up to taking them to the park so we decided to have them go wild in the backyard with some girly crafts.

""""

The most difficult part was dividing up who got what color. We had to make a trade off – if you got a pretty color, you had to let the others take the pretty decorations. All the girls get along pretty well so after about 15 minutes of “Aah, I wanted that one!” everyone was content and ready to decorate. With ten brightly colored bands, each was able to work on two to take home.

They had a blast. It always amazes me how create children can be! The instructions are a bit lengthy but they have a lot of pictures to refer to when creating different designs. Ribbons, rhinestones, flowers, and feathers were being passed around as they all shared the included glue pen.

""

The instructions clearly state that you should not take the included cardboard insert apart. No wonder! It was perfect for letting the finished masterpieces dry. One girl did use glue on hers but just attached one of the included flowers. She put hers on immediately and even wore it home.

Each of the girls loved the project and they were we ecstatic that they could keep their headbands. The whole process took about 45 minutes. This was just enough time for them to take a break from their craziness and kind of ‘reset’ for when they played after. Kids can go on and on but if you don’t let them calm down a bit, they will all be on hyper-drive. This is the perfect activity for girls 5 and up.
