The other day I found an unexpected box at my door. To say I was surprised by the contents would be an understatement . . .

Yes, I got a monster collection of the new Squinkies toys for boys. The original series was a huge hit with all the cute, squishy babies, kids, and pets. My daughter still plays with them. To let boys in on the action, Blip Toys has introduced a new line of more ‘boyish’ themes featuring pirates, cars, Marvel characters, skateboards, aliens, spaceships, etc. The Marvel characters were done very well and as a once-avid comic book reader I could clearly recognize the chubby mini replicas.

As I don’t have any nephews nearby my only test subject for these was my daughter. While I don’t have the most girly daughter in the world, she was not too interested in these. Well, I take that back. She did enjoy the Cars 2 set and quickly opened all the plastic bubbles, including the ‘mystery’ ones. The detail on the little figures was great.

I felt that some of the Squinkies were a bit ‘rough’. Army tanks, skull-shaped pirate bases, street thugs, and other such characters and accessories seemed a bit over the top to me. Does appealing to boys mean it has to involve violence? Is that just the sentiment of a daughter-only mother? Maybe, but even if I had a son I would be very selective of which items were keepers and which would be disposed of. There were even a couple of ‘iffy’ ones in the Cars 2 pack with rapid-fire machine guns painted on the side of one car.

These new Squinkies allow boys to now enjoy the fun without all the pink and fluff. With tons of variety they are sure to find several favorites and have a blast!

——————– WIN IT!

To enter (mandatory): For additional entries leave a comment for each you do:

Giveaway ends 10/9/11 at 11:59 PST.
