A few weeks ago, I happened to get in touch with a local art company called GLOB. Not only do they make natural paint (made from fruits, vegetables, and spices) that you can mix yourself, but all their products and packaging are eco-friendly. My daughter and I had a chance to try out their Collage Kit which included 4 paint packets, 2 mixing tins, 8 plantable greeting cards with wildflowers seeds, and 1 bamboo brush.

The package stated that the paint should be one part water and one part powder. This was a good start but adding a bit more water allowed us to make the paint powder stretch a bit more without lightening the color. I was quite proud that I happened to use somewhat coordinating bowls for the paint. Actually, that was kind of by accident and only because I couldn’t find our small covered containers…

My daughter had a blast! She loved that all the paints smelled nicely but the pomegranite (red) was her favorite. We were so surprised at how vivid the colors were. I only wish the blue was a bit bluer. The paint also acts as a glue so it was easy to attach the included items for decoration.

The bamboo brush was fantastic with even bristles and a nice handle. We only had one, though, so I rounded up some more brushes just to make it easier to use the different colors. I want to get more of the Glob bamboo brushes since they sure beat those discount value pack brushes that have bristle falling out all over the place and are useless after one time.

After painting a couple of cards, my daughter got tired painting by herself. I decided to join her and paint a bit myself. She then got all excited and started painting again as well. After I finished my monkey, I put on some googly eyes. I know these aren’t eco-friendly but they crack me up! Unfortunately, the paint was not strong enough to hold those on and they kept falling off. I need to use actual craft glue next time. I decided to give the card to my husband but when I turned it over to write on, I discovered my daughter had already painted on it. So, we found out that the cards are thick enough to paint on both sides without seeping through and my husband got some art work from his wife and daughter: win-win!

Clean up was a breeze. I just wiped the table down with a damp cloth and that was it. My daughter was easily able to get all the paint out of her nails. Yes, her nails. Kids can’t seem to keep their hands out of messy things no matter how old they get. I easily washed out the paint bowls and it was so nice knowing that I was not ruining the environment when it went down the drain.

We still have a few cards left and several decorations so we’ll be planning another GLOB day soon. The only bad thing about the collage kit is that, once your child has painted on them, who wants to bury them in the dirt?
