I admit it. I am not a good gift-giver. It’s not that I lack in appreciation or generosity but, rather, I just have no idea what people would like. Sure, there are the normal things like cards, gift certificates, flowers, etc. but whenever I try to stray from those I usually get it wrong. My mom, on the other hand, gets the best gift for each person every time. I don’t know how she does it but I hope to be like her when I grow up! In the meantime, I’m glad I found Uncommon Goods!

It’s always important to try before you buy so I did a trial run of ordering something for myself first. I decided to get the Jewel Tone Sari Scarf which had an interesting video linked to it, telling the story of how these scarves were carefully and individually made by hand. I was impressed by the fast shipping and softness of the scarf.

I’m not that great about accessorizing my outfits but I quite liked how this simple, yet richly-colored scarf, could dress up a plain black shirt. Plus, it’s long and thin enough to tie in several different ways. It is not, however, good as a wrap. The ends are sewn just enough to prevent raveling and does not take away from the beautiful collection of fabrics. It also versatile enough to wear with a skirt or with jeans.

The items found here are, well, uncommon. That means you can find a unique gift for everyone you have in mind. They’ve got a great selection for him, her, the kids, and for the home. Check out their selection of japanese gifts, magnetic silly putty, and creative paper gifts. So next time you need to get a present and can’t ask my mom for suggestions, try this store for some fascinating ideas!

I admit it.
