Fast food, frozen food, and even restaurant food is expensive and tends to make us sick. Plus, it has more bad stuff for us than good. Home-cooked meals are obviously the best choice in terms of nutrition and taste but it can be tough to whip up a gourmet dish night after night. Have you heard of <a title=\"Citizen Chef\" href=\"http:\/\/www.citizenchef.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Citizen Chef<\/a>? I hadn&#8217;t until recently and I&#8217;m so glad to have found them (well, the company actually found me). The &#8216;kits&#8217; are easy, fast, and appetizing.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Meet Citizen Chef, a recently launched San Francisco-based food startup focused on providing a solution for busy parents \u2013 by bringing healthy ingredients to families who are time strapped, on-the-go and want to share a home-cooked meal. Each meal \u201ckit\u201d includes fresh veggies and flavors that prepare a complete chef-inspired dinner in under 15 minutes.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I drove to my local Whole Foods and picked up the Thai Sesame Stir Fry from among the three varieties in stock. I love anything with peanut sauce but many companies have a hard time finding the perfect mix of flavor and\u00a0consistency. Fresh veggies, specialty sauce, brown rice, and full instructions were included. The only thing I needed to add was my protein, for which I chose to use chicken.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-21809\" title=\"citizenchef01\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cookiesandclogs.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/citizenchef01.jpg\" alt=\"Citizen chef meal kit add meat protein\" width=\"760\" height=\"568\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The instructions were extremely easy to follow and, by doing each step in the allotted time, everything was ready at the same time. I was a little nervous the brown rice would taste a bit too healthy. Fortunately it was fine with the sauce (which was delicious and had a small kick of Thai spice). Well, it was more than fine. It was really good! My husband and daughter even liked it. The best part? The food tasted so fresh and none of us felt that &#8216;heaviness&#8217; experience from pre-made meals.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-21810\" title=\"citizenchef02\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cookiesandclogs.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/citizenchef02.jpg\" alt=\"Citizen chef meal kit add meat protein\" width=\"760\" height=\"568\" \/><\/p>\n<p>As stated on the package, this was more than enough for the three of us. The meal kits cost about $9.99 each and there&#8217;s a coupon for $3 off if you share this with other Bay Area friends. As the company is still new, only a few select Whole Foods carry the items now but that number is quickly growing.
