JumpStart produces high-quality educational software for children. Their newest addition is JumpStart 3D Virtual World, an interactive online game and learning center. The moment we got access to this game, my daughter was hooked!

You start by creating your avatar, called a Jumpee, by customizing it’s facial features and clothes. You can buy more options later. This is the one I made – looks like me eh?

There are several themed lands that are geared to different age groups from 3-10 but each ahs activities that can appeal to all ages. For example, my 9-year-old daughter likes that she can take care of cute little pets in Story Land, which she calls the ‘baby world’. The basic break-down goes like this:

""StoryLand (3 to 5 years old)

Younger ones get to meet all the characters who help them practice their 123’s and ABC’s. This is basically a self-contained mini-version of the game but designed for preschoolers.

MarineLand and AdventureLand (K-2nd grade)

My daughter and I agree that these two lands are the most fun. You have various missions to fulfill and a lot of great games to play. It is so fun to speed down twisty slides, compete in an underwater fashion show, and save the lost island from the irritating Punk Punks.

FutureLand (3rd to 5th grade)

To keep the older ones engaged, the games here are a little tougher and the trivia is more challenging.

But wait, there’s more! You can get pets, watch movies, get shot out of a canon, play sports, explore an underground ant farm, mine gems, even raise your own dragon (that acts like a puppy). Collect coins to buy things and stars to unlock features.

Here’s a clip of my daughter playing the game. The video is a little less than 6 minutes long but it shows a good overview of what actual game-play is like.

I am very pleased that I can have full control over the amount of online interaction I want my daughter to have. Also, the JumpStart blog updates parents of new features and additional content. Each part of the game contains easy instructions, friendly characters, positive reinforcement, and upbeat but not obnoxious music. Beware that it is flash-heavy so, depending on your computer system, it might get choppy at times or temporarily delay.

JumpStart 3D Virtual World is a great learning tool and provides a safe environment for children to have fun. Homeschooling families and other parents looking to stimulate their children’s minds need not look any further.
