First I got a package from UPS that contained a few items and a letter that our frogs would be coming shortly. About an hour later, the FedEX carrier came. Talk about service!

The folks over at Insect Lore really got a nice package together for us. As a homeschooling parent I was thrilled that this could be more than just a fun experience. These extra items will really help create a good science project. Not only can my daughter enjoy the frogs but she can also learn more about their life cycle and habitat.

We received a floor puzzle, plastic figures, and a grow-your-own lily pad. Using these has been instrumental in helping my daughter to understand frogs better. Instead of just telling her, I can use the figures to show her the size and shape the frogs go through in each cycle. The floor puzzle is about the size of a floor mat and is made of thick foam. My daughter has decided to use it as a play mat in her room and each time she is subconsciously reviewing her science lesson. Perhaps we’ll grow the lily pad in the spring.

For the aquarium, the only thing I needed to do was buy some spring water. The set up was really easy. The living gravel and bamboo work to create a self-contained environment that cleans itself and yet is able to sustain healthy, happy frogs. Ours are VERY happy . . . but more on that will be written in a separate post. We only need to feed them twice a week and refresh the water every three months or so.

Our frogs are very active, especially at night. We thought they would be kind of boring but they are really entertaining to watch. Take a look at these little guys in the video below as my daughter ‘tries’ to spur them on.

What a fun review to do! I’ve been really happy with ordering from Insect Lore and was so happy they agreed to work together. Last year we got their Ladybug Land and, ever since then, ladybugs have been my daughter’s favorite bug. So if you are looking for a great school project or just some fun little pets, this might be the right fit for your family.
