With my husband and I traveling most of last week, we had to postpone any plans to celebrate our 13th anniversary. It was a bummer but sometimes these things happen. So, after settling back in, we went to eat a nice family dinner at Olive Garden this past Sunday. We only go to Olive Garden once in a while as a special treat. It’s got a great selection of rich Italian food and the workers are generally friendly and upbeat.

The place was packed with a 25-minute wait. There were three available seats at the bar area so we just opted to eat there. This ended up working out for the best as we had awesome service and it was pretty cool watching the bartenders at work.

Right now, Olive Garden has a new “Buy One, Take One” promotion going on. For only $12.95, you can order one entree and get a second one to bring home FREE! So, not only do you get a full meal complete with unlimited breadsticks and soup/salad, but you also get a break from cooking for a second night in a row. You do NOT have to have the same thing for your second dish, unless you want to of course. Each location has a special menu for you to mix & match from. Our local restaurant offered the following:

We got the Fettuccine Alfredo for my daughter and ordered the Mezzaluna Ravioli with Five Cheese Marinara to bring home. Munchkin enjoyed her Fettuccine Alfredo but ended up taking half of it home anyway. She got too full off the salad and numerous breadsticks she ate beforehand. I can’t blame her – those things are DELISH!

My husband had a Stuffed Chicken Marsala while I went with the Tour of Italy (lasagna, chicken parmigiana, and fettuccine alfredo). Our orders arrived so quickly that both my daughter and husband said, “Wow, that was fast!” I took pictures but it was hard to see what our food actually looked like since it was after we had fresh parmesan cheese loaded all over it. We definitely like our cheese! Our food was okay but it didn’t ‘blow us away’ as it has in the past. All-in-all it was a great dining experience that left us full and relaxed though.

Before we left, the ravioli came chilled and was already in a to-go container. Since my daughter was going to be doing her STAR testing the next day, I decided to eat the ‘take home’ dish for lunch. Instructions to heat it up in the microwave were included and it was ready in about 2-3 minutes. This was so convenient! When it’s just me, I tend to just not eat or snack so it was nice having a warm, filling meal. It didn’t quite look like the picture but the taste was decent. I probably should have spread the sauce around before heating it. In the end, it was still reheated food. At least it was satisfying.
