It’s been years since I’ve watched Mary Poppins but it’s about time I did so again. With the release of Mary Poppins 50th Anniversary Edition"" Blu-ray / DVD, as well as the upcoming Saving Mr. Banks (the film which follows Walt Disney’s efforts to procure the rights to make the movie from author P.L. Travers), there’s no time better than the present!

Re-Experiencing Mary Poppins

Together with my husband and daughter, we got to see the wonderfully-restored classic. Aside from some green screen work that looked a bit worn, the rest of the video footage looked fantastic and extremely clear. For a live action film from 1964, that’s really saying a lot! The songs are as charming as ever and that accent by Dick van Dyke is just awesome 🙂

During the the interview with Pete Menefee, he told us that the sound of the penguins dancing was actually that of the folly crew (people doing the sound effects) slapping their bare bellies. Who knew?! My family had an extra fun time watching that animation sequence with that image in mind!
