Do you like history? Don’t worry, not many do. Usually that’s because it was so mind-numbingly boring when you were in school that you can’t fathom ever having to go through it again. Since I homeschool my daughter, skipping history is not an option for either of us. So, the only way for us to survive this year’s history is to make it fun with some cool crafts for kids.

Cool Crafts for Kids from Story of the World

For the past few years, I have used Story of the World as our main history curriculum. We’ve read through the books and my daughter would complete the written chapter tests provided. This year, though, we’re going to do things a little differently. We’re going to go back through books one through four and do project-based learning. We’ll take nine activities from each volume and do one a week. These books list some fantastic activities but, aside from basic paper projects, the rest are a bit involved. These range from making models to cooking dishes to even mummifying things (yeah, we’re not going to do that because it’s just too gross).

Obviously, that means we need some specific items on hand. Thanks to Walmart to Go, I was able to get most of what I needed delivered. That’s right, I got some of my back to school shopping without having to leave the house. You can check out the Walmart To Go First – VIP Experiencehere.

"Livening

Walmart to Go Experience

A couple items were substituted and two items were not in stock so I wasn’t charged for them. This was clearly stated when the delivery guys came. I thought it was funny that they needed to see my ID. Apparently, when you buy certain items it’s required that you show your identification. In this case, I ordered some glue and they had to make sure I wasn’t sniffing/abusing it 😛

One thing I should mention is that you need to keep in mind that what you get comes right from the store. That means that the same condition you’d find things on the shelves is what will be delivered. The craft sticks we got was ripped wide open and many of the paint jars are only 1/3 full. I wasn’t about to count each stick to make sure we really had 1000 and didn’t realize the paint jars were partially empty until the condensation that was inside when delivered dissipated. However, I did return the plastic wrap as it was totally open on one end and I have no idea what people could have done with it.

The moral of the story? Make sure you check your items carefully when the delivery person is there so you can return items you are not 100% happy with. Either that or check it as soon as possible and call customer service right away. Otherwise you’ll just have to eat the cost.

It’s great that I have one less errand to run but a bummer that Walmart To Go‘s delivery of items is so hit and miss. I guess I still have some more shopping to do, especially since some items were already out of stock when I was putting in my order. Oh well, at least I have what I need to get started and, hopefully, our history sessions will be a just a bit less painful this time around.

How do you make history interesting for your kids?
