The sheer amount of nonograms or griddlers games for Android tablets can be overwhelming. Out of all of them, one has won me over – GraphiLogic. It’s not as pretty graphically as some other brain games for adult and kids, but the layout and controls are so clear that you can actually focus on the game and playing it. You’ll notice an option to even make your own puzzles. Yeah, not really my thing but some might like that.

GraphiLogic is great for beginners as well as novice users. Tap once to fill a box in, tap again to mark it as empty, or tap a third time to return the box to a “?” status. Tap and drag across multiple boxes to mark them at the same time. The undo icon comes in handy when you accidentally fill in too many or the wrong ones.

If you get all the boxes right, a little “Yippee!” will sound (this is super adorable). The finished pictures, when shrunk down in the thumbnails, are pretty easy to identify and revealing these is half of the fun.

Puzzles come in one color and in multiple colors. When working with the multi-color puzzles, a paint brush icon in the upper (landscape view) or lower (portrait view) right-hand corner will light up. Use this to toggle the color you currently want to use.

The tricky part about these puzzles is that you do not need a spacer box between colors. When they are completed, though, the final picture is more detailed and this allows for more variety of configurations.

There is also a “verify” feature so you can check if there are any errors when you’re stuck. As the puzzles get harder, I tend to use this more often. What I don’t like is that it does not cross off the numbers after you’ve solved for them. If you’re working with numerous groups of small numbers, it can get confusing which ones you fulfilled and which ones you didn’t.

Another puzzle type, called mosaic (kind of like Minesweeper when you’re told how many filled in blocks surround a particular number), is included as well. As far as I know, this is the only app that adds in this type of game. It’s nice to switch things up a little and break the monotony of playing the same type of things over and over again.

The puzzles can get pretty small as you enter the grids with 15-20 boxes. I am still able to accurately fill in the boxes just using my finger though. If you have wider fingers, you can zoom in to the puzzle or it might be easier to just use a stylus. Do not even attempt these sizes on a mobile phone though. You’ll be cross-eyed in no time!

Many puzzles of varying difficulty are already included in the free GraphiLogic app. However, there are five (5) more add-on packs that you can download at no charge and it will add the puzzles to the main game app, bringing the total number of free puzzles to more than 300. If you still want more, there are additional themed packs that can be bought for varying amount between $0.99 and $3.19 (don’t know why they ask for such strange amounts for each). A special pack was released for kids ages 5-9 too.

GraphiLogic Nonograms App for Android Devices
