If you’re a lover of all things MONOPOLY, then this is one game you’ll need to add to or replace your classic board game. Now available on Xbox One, PS4, Xbox 360, PS3 is MONOPOLY Plus. MONOPOLY Plus transports players to an animated 3D game board and automated many of the basic actions.

MONOPOLY Plus Review

When my family tried out MONOPOLY Plus on our Xbox, we kind of expected the whole game board to come alive. However, that is not what happened. Instead, the usually bare center area on the board is replaced with a crowded 3D city. You don’t interact with this city at all and it’s just there for looks.

I did like the animation of rolling the dice and how clearly properties are indicated. However, since the game prompts you to “shake” the dice, my initial reaction was to shake the controller. That did nothing except make me look silly 😛 You actually need to press a button to get the dice going. Why say to shake the dice then?!

Speaking of game prompts, the announcer is okay at first but quickly becomes irritating. There’s only a handful of phrases said so it gets repetitive very fast. The same can be said of the animation as the variety is limited. So, while the new features of the 3D game are nice to look at at first, the novelty wears off quickly. So, if MONOPOLY usually bores you, don’t expect any change in gameplay excitement.
