There was just so much awesomeness in the air when our blogging group visited the super secret filming set of Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD. The first bit of fun I have been cleared (by Marvel) to share are the interviews with Iain De Caestecker (“Leo Fitz”), Elizabeth Henstridge (“Jemma Simmons”), Brett Dalton (“Grant Ward”), Henry Simmons (“Alphonso ‘Mack’ Mackenzie”) and Adrianne Palicki (“Bobbi Morse”).

Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD Cast Interviews

We started with a four-way panel with Iain, Elizabeth, Brett, and Henry. Yes, they all look as good close up 🙂 Someone must have given this bunch a case of the gigglies because they were so silly during the interviews! They had a totally different vibe going than on the show and it was hilarious!

Did Brett know of Grant Ward’s true intentions early on?

BRETT: No, I didn’t know before. They let me know like the episode before and so there wasn’t a lot of a heads up on that. I appreciate the Wikipedia entry where somebody said that they let me know in the beginning of the season, so I could subtly play it every scene. I don’t know who wrote that but thank you for the credit in something I did not do.

But, yeah, it was a big change but I think it really rounded out the character in a way. Prior to that he had kind of a mask that he was showing to the rest of the team. And then after that you get all of the backstory underneath it and all of the pain and danger in there. It really fleshed him out and made him really fun to play.

Was it hard for Henry to keep a straight face when he went into big, bad alien mode?

HENRY: It was pretty easy because there was so much choreography that had to be done in terms of fight scenes, the bombing and all that kind of stuff. It was pretty easy to stay in there and keep focused . . . I actually liked that whole possessed character. It was great. It was easy to stay in.

Speaking of that part, Iain chimed in about how cool that particular set was. A whole underground tunnel stage had been built and it was “pretty dark and scary when you were in it.”

In talking about their favorite scene to shoot, this conversation just really tickled me pink. Poor Henry…

HENRY: The one that stands out is the first scene I had with you, the very first. I really liked that scene. (Looking over at Iain.) Just because the way it was written. Not when we met, but when we were in the lab and you were talking to me and…

IAIN: Oh yeah, that actually that might be my favorite. The one where…

HENRY: Yeah, it was like, you know, I was…

IAIN: I think I was imagining you being there (looking over at Elizabeth) and we were talking and you kind of fancied him. In my imagination you fancied him.

ELIZABETH: Oh! That was fun.

IAIN: And you’re like, oh he’s…

ELIZABETH: Because I could do anything…

HENRY: Oh, you’re talking about a different scene.

IAIN: No, remember the one where she’s there, but you don’t know she’s there because she’s in my imagination.

ELIZABETH: In the lab. Are you talking about the one in the garage or the lab?

HENRY: No, no, no…

IAIN: Well you’re like, what are you talking about? And I’m talking to her…yes.

HENRY: Yeah, yeah, yeah.

ELIZABETH: Yeah, yeah, yeah.

IAIN: And then she’s looking at you like, oh, fancy him.

HENRY: Oh, I don’t remember seeing that.

ELIZABETH: I was invisible.

HENRY: Really?

The cast then joined Adrianne Palicki (“Bobbi Morse”) to take some photos with us.

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. w/ Adrianne Palicki

Before she had to jet off, Adrianne gave us a bit of her time for some deep one on one (well, one on 25 actually) conversation. Adrianne touched on the inner struggles her character, Bobbi, is dealing with. She has loyalty to both S.H.I.E.L.D. factions but is concerned about the decisions she has made and losing trust of those she cares most about.

Bobbi’s secret was almost as much of a surprise to her as it was to viewers though.

I had been on for quite a few episodes and we started talking about this secret…They would not tell me the secret!
