After seeing the commercials and attending a live demo, Disney’s Playmation is finally here! The new game system hit toy shelves at Toys R Us and other retailers yesterday and it will be a HIT with any and all kids (and adults) that love playing super hero.

Playmation is a completely standalone system and can be taken pretty much anywhere. No internet or Wi-Fi connection is needed and you can play completely free of any television, smartphone, or tablet screens. Plus, since players actually have to get up and move around to complete the missions, you can get a serious workout in.

Getting Started with Disney’s Playmation

Each Playmation Starter Pack retails for $129.99 and comes with Repulsor Gear, two Smart Figures, and two Power Activators. 12 AA batteries are required but are not included. Make sure to pick up a 12-pack of AA Duracell batteries when you purchase the starter set or you will have a disappointed camper or two when they found out they have to wait to play with it. (Psst, all Duracell batteries are buy one get one 40% off at Toys R Us this week.)

You do need a small screwdriver to install the batteries. Four AA batteries go in the Repuslor Gear and and each of the Power Activators require four AA batteries as well.

When the Repulsor Gear is powered on, you will be taken through a brief tutorial. After that, you can start the first of the 25 pre-programmed missions alone or sync up with another player’s Repulsor Gear for team play. The basic story is to help the Avengers when Ultron bots take over the Avengers Tower. A free play mode is included if you and your kids just like chasing each other and randomly firing the palm cannon 😛 All instructions are related through a speaker in the gear (FYI, it’s pretty loud so you might want to put something over it if your kids have sensitive ears).

As you play through the missions, your gear will level up and upgrades will be added. To check on the status and to load up new missions, the free AvengersNet app can be connected to your Repulsor Gear. I haven’t had the chance to play too much with the app yet but it seems like a great way to keep track of how the player is doing in the game.

Smart Figures can be used for another type of play. Just snap the Smart Figure to a Power Activator to begin. When defeated, the figure will pop off and you can let out a cry of victory! Play with various villains and allies to level up your gear and bring the game to life. All Playmation figures and accessories are on sale at Toys R Us and on ToysRUs.com so make sure you check the weekly ads in your area.

Mother-Daughter Demo of Disney’s Playmation

It can be kind of hard to understand how Playmation works unless you see it in action. For your enjoyment, here’s a (goofy) video of my daughter and me trying it out. The video is just over seven minutes but you’ll see how the setup goes, how to sync gear, and what the first mission is like.
