I haaatttteeeeee water. I know it’s good for me and that I really should be drinking a ton more of it. But it’s just so hard! Water gets really boring really fast and I would so much rather savor a tall glass of juice, soda, iced coffee, or sweet tea. I need help!

Tips to Drink More Water – Dehydration is No Joke

They say that if you feel thirsty, it’s a sign that you’re already dehydrated. Well, especially lately, I’ve been feeling parched morning, noon, and night! Then there are the side effects that come along with dehydration. I have been dealing with dry mouth, fatigue, dizziness, lack of mental clarity, and so on. It’s clear that something has to change because, if it keeps going on like this, my health is going to take a dangerous nosedive!

So, I have been experimenting with different methods to make drinking water more appealing. We already have pretty good tap water in our area but we found that using a filter really improves the flavor. We installed a PŪR filter on our faucet several months ago and that has been working out really well. The tap water doesn’t have a weird flavor or an aftertaste any more and replacement filters are reasonably-priced.

Water is much more palatable, and at times even refreshing, when fully chilled. Having a home water cooler is awesome but we sometimes we’ll just put a pitcher of water in the refrigerator to cool. Once in a while I’ll even toss some fruit, herbs, or cucumber in there to infuse some flavor. We refill each of these using the filtered tap water I mentioned earlier.

Help From CVS to #FindYourHealthy

That’s not enough though. Plain water is so, well, plain and making myself down glass after glass or bottle after bottle can sometimes be gag-inducing. I decided to check out CVS to see what I could find. Apparently, I’m not the only one struggling with my water intake. Why do I say that? In the beverage aisle, I found a ton of water enhancers and several varieties of flavored water. That means more people are on the lookout for ways to get their daily dose of water in.

The display of water enhancers had so many tasty-sounding options that I had a hard time not grabbing them all. I wasn’t sure how they would taste so I decided to narrow it down to two, at least for starters. After I put the Gold Emblem Strawberry Lemonade and Skinny Girl Pineapple Coconut (with Stevia) in the basket, I spun around to look at the bottled water on the opposite side.

As if choosing water enhancers wasn’t hard enough, there were so many choices of flavored water! I was excited to see so much flavored sparkling water. Bubbles always make drinks more interesting to. I also wanted to pick some water that did not contain sweeteners. The sparkling lemon-flavored Dasani fit the bill. I made sure to grab a 12-pack of that too.

Water Enhancers and Flavored Sparkling Water

For some reason, I thought the water enhancers would be little pill-type things, similar to those dissolvable antacid tabs. It wasn’t until I was about to use it that I realized liquid was inside. This actually turns out to be better anyway since you can easily adjust how much extra flavor to add.

Just make sure you turn the bottle upside down before squirting the flavor out. Munchkin didn’t realize how fast the flavoring would shoot out and ended up splattering a nice little trail of bright red liquid across our light-colored carpet… It turned out to be pretty good. You only need a little since the flavor is concentrated.

The first flavored bottled water that I tried was the kiwi strawberry. This one has a little coloring in it and a fairly strong flavor. It kind of felt like I was just drinking a soda, just minus most of the bad stuff and zero calories. The other one I bought, the raspberry blackberry flavor, is completely clear and equally as tasty! The Dasani didn’t really taste like anything but, again, those bubbles make a huge difference 😛

I’m still working on drinking more water but at least it’s a start. With all of these options, water will not be a bit less boring and maybe I’ll be able to drink it more often. Ideally, I’d love to get to the point where I don’t need any extra flavor but, for now, I need all the help I can get in drinking enough water!
