Rescued pets are near and dear to my heart as our own pup, Speckles, was a rescue. Did I ever tell you that story? If not, here it goes.<\/p>\n<h3>National Pet Month \u2014 Speckles&#8217; Rescue Story<\/h3>\n<p>These past five years with Speckles have been wonderful and we\u2019re so glad to have her as part as our family. When we decided to get a dog, we knew that we wanted to get a rescue versus a dog from a breeder. There are so many wonderful animals in shelters that need homes. However, since we were first-time dog owners, we knew we couldn\u2019t handle one with deep emotional issues.<\/p>\n<p>Speckles\u2019 mom and seven siblings were in a kill shelter. A kind family pulled them out and worked with a local rescue. The family actually fostered all nine dogs until they could all find loving forever homes. Speckles (who was previously named \u201cPanda\u201d) came to us at 8 weeks old and we couldn\u2019t be happier with her. I would love for other families to experience the joy of adopting a pet that we have.
