When I first heard about the personalized ‘Atlas of My World‘ by National Geographic Kids, I must admit that I thought it was kind of overpriced for a plain old atlas with my kid’s name on it. That, and the example on the site, didn’t impressive me much. Boy, was I wrong!

This book is beautiful! The colors are bright and vivid while the quality of the pages and binding is superb! The dust jacket really adds a nice touch.

""Since my daughter is with me ALL the time being homeschooled, it is kind of difficult to keep much secret from her. Yet, somehow we were able to totally surprise her with this book.

Her face was beaming as she saw her name and read the personal message from us to her. A nine-year-old doesn’t get very sentimental but it did make her smile. The message itself is not very clear in the image to the right but we have to keep it somewhat personal and private, right?

As she turned the page she said, “Hey, that’s me!”

""

Yes, being the protective mother I am, I blurred her face but you get the idea. On the following two pages there is a larger image of your child(ren) and miscellaneous tidbits about them. You can choose from various prompts including their birth date, their favorite color, what city they live in, what they like to eat, etc. Then you choose what type of home they live in and if it’s in the city, suburbs, or country. The customization process is very easy and you can easily preview it.

Give it a try (for free) here – but be warned, you WILL like it!

The content is amazing in so many ways. Living up to the National Geographic standards, this book is highly educational and visually stimulating. The information is far from dry and is a fantastic teaching tool. I was afraid it would be too juvenile for a fourth-grade student but, instead, it is a wonderful way to enrich world geography and foster a love of learning about various lands and cultures.

""

Whenever we tried to look at the book, my daughter would hold it tightly as she playfully stated, “No, my book! It says that it’s —-‘s atlas!” It shocked me to see just how much she liked it. For the next few hours, she was playing trivia with my husband and I. We actually enjoyed it as we could not answer 2/3 of the questions. She had fun taking a tally of who gave the most correct answers.

At first, $39.95 may seem like a lot for a 48-page atlas. After getting the physical copy, I think that’s actually a bargain for this one-of-a-kind treasure. The personalized ‘Atlas of My World’ makes a wonderful gift and can create a lasting memory.
