“Ladybug Girl and the Bug Squad” & “Ladybug Girl at the Beach”

Do you know a little girl that likes butterflies or ladybugs? Of course you do. The one I know happens to live with me. My daughter is a huge ladybug fan. When I first told her about the Ladybug Girl book series by David Somar and Jacky Davis she was less than enthused. It is true that she is reads three levels above her own grade and the book is meant for a younger audience. Still, it’s a little girl that goes around in a ladybug costume – how could she not love it?!
New Ladybug Girl books

Recently she gave it a chance and guess what? She loved it, just like I thought she would! The art style is so friendly and the stories are written in a way that children can easily to relate to them. Lulu, a.k.a Ladybug Girl, views everything as an adventure and faces it all head-on along with her fuzzy sidekick, Bingo.

The newest additions to the series are “Ladybug Girl and the Bug Squad” and “Ladybug Girl at the Beach”. When reading the ‘Bug Squad’ book my daughter kept saying, “She’s just like me!” My daughter often makes up stories featuring herself as a ladybug and her friends as other bugs – all with unique super powers. It was as if this book was written about her! The other book focuses on Lulu’s first time to the beach and how the powerful waves seemed a bit overwhelming and scary. Every child has experienced something similar, and some adults as well.

The Ladybug Girl books are a great, fun read. They are not particularly challenging to older children but the stories create just a warm, happy feeling inside that they will be asking to read them again and again.
