California-Specific Resources

by TerriAnn

Every state has its own guidelines and laws for educating your children at home. Here are a few resources that Californian families can benefit from:

Assisted Schooling

  • Ocean Grove Charter School (OGCS) – for students Santa Cruz, Monterey, San Benito, Santa Clara, and San Mateo counties
  • Connecting Waters Charter School
  • California Virtual Academies (CAVA)
  • Check your local district to see if they offer independent study courses through the public school program.

One great site to go to to find information on the current homeschooling laws in your state is http://www.hslda.org/laws/default.asp. This is the link to the laws. Remember, in California, you are not a homeschooler, you are a private school.

Thank you for that link – it really comes in handy for the readers across the nation. As I go through and independent charter school, I am technically connected to a public school so did not need to file as a private school. Thanks for the clarification though 🙂
