When New Year Enthusiasm and the Cold Season Fight for Your Attention

by TerriAnn
Welcoming the new year of 2018 during the cold season. Sick woman on sofa.

It’s the first day of 2018 and you know what? I’m sick! I can’t believe I’m welcoming in the new year in bed. I felt something coming on a few days ago, tried to get some rest, and actually thought I kicked it. But, then, I started to get the chills again and ended up sleeping until 2 pm. There went my grand plans to hit the ground running with renewed energy and determination. Instead, I have to stay home and hope for the best that this doesn’t turn into a full-blown cold. Ugh, sickness never fails to happen at the wrong times. I hate the cold season!

Another Victim of Cold Season

Honestly, I should have known better and been more careful when I was around other people. I did, after all, received an email from CVS a couple weeks ago with the subject line “Cold Season is Coming to Foster City, CA.” Oh, if only I paid closer attention to that message and used the included coupon to stock up on immune boosters before I got sick!

Oh, well. Now that I’ve been hit, there’s nothing I can do but stay home and try to get over it as soon as possible. If I do need any medicine or household goods, I can always order it through the CVS Pharmacy app and have it delivered to my door. CVS Pharmacy offers free 1-2 day shipping when orders are over $49. In the Health & Medicine section, there’s even a curated list of items for the cold season under Cough, Cold, and Flu. That will take you to suggestions for chest rub, medicine, cough drops, medicine for children, immune support, lip and cold sore treatments, and nasal care. If you’re not sure what to add to your cart, I did compile ten essential items to keep on hand. (Yes, another reason I have no excuse for getting sick during the cold season…)

When I do get better, I’ll probably get a flu shot. I try to get one every year since the flu strains seem to get nastier each year. Getting a cold is a pain but no one needs to be down for one to two weeks with those awful flu symptoms. In the CVS Pharmacy app, you can also locate the closest MinuteClinic with the shortest wait time. That way you can go in, get a flu shot, and then be on your way in a jiffy. The practitioners there do much more than administer vaccines so make sure to check the “services” tab to see what else is offered.

Cold Season VS New Year Enthusiasm Round Two

Fortunately, I’m only in the early stages of illness and might be able to recover if I take it easy for a couple more days. Before, taking two Airshield tablets a day and trying to sleep as much possible helped me feel better pretty quickly. The problem was that tried to do too much too soon. That’s when signs of the relapse set in. Now I’m determined to fight this bug off for good and get back to starting this new year off right!

Hope you are feeling better. I started the new year with a head cold too.

Thank you. I am feeling better. I stayed in A LOT this week and tried to get rest. So far, the symptoms seem 100% gone and I’m happy that I never got anything full-blown. Sorry to hear about your head cold. I hope you feel better soon. 🙂

All I can say is you did well in deciding to rest a lot. But, I can also add an advice 🙂 Thanks to one mommy blogger I found, I have now an ally in fighting against the cold – A humidifier (warm mist in my case). Not only that you sleep better, but it also helps with congestion and cuts down on recovery time. Plus, if you buy one with an essential oil tray, you can add a few drops of eucalyptus oil and speed up the process even more.
