NewAir Water Dispenser (WCD-100W) Review - Hot / Cold with Storage Compartment #Home

As the weather gets warmer, it’s getting more and more important for my family to keep hydrated. Of course, the best way of doing that is by drinking water, a lot of it. Unfortunately, that’s been a real challenge for us. None of us are really fond of the taste of plain water and the urge to slurp down icy sodas is just so strong. Though I never really thought about owning a water dispenser for our home, that just might be the extra push we need to drink more water. Even in our small one-bedroom apartment, we found just the spot for our new NewAir Water Dispenser (WCD-100W).

NewAir Drinking Water Dispenser (WCD-100W) Review - Hot / Cold with Storage Compartment #HomeProduct received for review purposes. All opinions are my own.

NewAir Water Dispenser (WCD-100W) for Home or Office

While you might think water dispensers / water coolers are just for the office, this one is also designed for home use. It has a sleek design, is nice and compact, has a stainless steel tank so you don’t get that ‘plastic’ taste in the water. It even has a handy compartment to store cups, stirrer, colorful little paper umbrellas, etc.

When the NewAir Water Dispenser arrived, the box was packed inside another box with extra foam cushioning. This is not the kind of item you want arriving broken so I appreciate the extra care taken to package it properly.

At only 35 lbs. the water dispenser was not too heavy for Frans to lift it out of the box. HOWEVER, soon after he pulled the product out, we discovered that the bottom of the box was not connected and the outside box was supposed to easy be slipped off. Oops! That called for a do-over.

Since there is a cooling element, the directions state that it’s important to let the dispenser stand still and the components settle for at least a couple of hours. We used that time to head out to the store and get a water bottle. The dispenser takes a 2-, 3-, or 5-liter bottle. The store we went to only had a 3-liter bottle but that was perfect for our small family. Plus, the smaller, stubby bottle makes the dispenser look much cuter in our entryway corner.

WCD-100W Set-Up and Installation

Before use, there is a one-time cleaning process to follow. First we had to put the bottle on the water dispenser and then let the apparatus run for 30 minutes. The WCD-100W includes a bottle spike but the bottle we were using didn’t need to be punctured. So, we just popped that full water bottle on. Okay, it didn’t quite go as smoothly as we had thought it would. It became apparent that we need to polish our water bottle-flipping skills (queue lots of towels…).

30 minutes passed and it was time to drain the water dispenser. I emptied the cold water into a bowl and about 1/2 liter came out. On the back of the dispenser is a plastic plug labeled ‘HOT’. Not wanting to be burned, I tried to open the plug with an oven mitt on. Yeah, that wasn’t working. I wasn’t sure if the plug had to be pulled or twisted but, either way, I needed my bare fingers to open it. Turns out that the plug had to be screwed off and, yes, the water was hot. When draining this part keep these things in mind:

  1. Screw off the cap/plug.
  2. Wear gloves or use a towel.
  3. Have a container large enough to hold 1/2 to 1 liter of water as the flow from the drain is constant.

Finally, our NewAir Water Dispenser was clean and ready for use! We closed up the plug, dried off any water in the area, connected the power, turned on the heating and cooling switches, and waited. It only takes about 5-10 minutes to heat but about 10-15 minutes to cool. The cold water was extremely cold and very refreshing. The hot water was hot enough to make tea and filled 2-1/2 mugs full of water. The room temperature tap, well, we haven’t tried that one yet because it’s not as fun.

See the WCD-100W video tutorial of installation and initial setup here!

Parents and clumsy people will be happy to know that the nozzle for the hot water has an extra piece so pressing that one is more deliberate. I really appreciate this extra safety feature to prevent accidental scalding (not that anyone would do it on purpose).

Using the NewAir Drinking Water Dispenser (WCD-100W)

The NewAir Water Dispenser (WCD-100W) is really a great addition to any home. It offers hot and cold water at all times and is small enough to fit in even small spaces. Operation is very quiet, except during the times it’s heating and/or cooling the water. Even then, this is not happening all the time and racking up your electricity bills. The water dispenser only heats or cools water as needed. In fact, the price to refill the bottles (one place only charged 39¢ per gallon) is much less expensive than continually buying bottled water. Overall, this is a nice item and one we plan on using for a while.

Really neat dispenser. Always good to have good water available.

Jessica June 12, 2014 - 5:16 am

We used to have a similar water dispenser in my grandmothers hope when I was younger. They have become so advanced! I would love to get one for my own house as we are trying to increase our water intake and cut out the juices.

Krystyn @ Really, Are You Serious? June 12, 2014 - 7:44 am

I like that it has a little fridge at the bottom. This would have been great when I was in grad school. We never had water nearby and I could hide my lunch in it!

Chrysa June 12, 2014 - 9:11 am

What a great review. I always wondered how well these did at keeping the water cold and hot. The fridge is a cute addition, too!

Kay Adeola June 12, 2014 - 9:16 am

Betsy Mitchell June 12, 2014 - 9:57 am

I have no idea where I would put it, but I need one of those!! I love that it doesnt waste extra space by adding the mini fridge below.

Jenn June 12, 2014 - 10:00 am

I think this would really help us drink more water throughout the day. Now to get a home office…

TerriAnn van Gosliga June 12, 2014 - 5:24 pm

Haha – ours is just in the entry way near the front door. It’s really compact to fit anywhere as long as there’s no carpet and an outlet is nearby.

Mitch June 12, 2014 - 10:37 am

What a great unit! We love drinking water all day long, and now my son drinks tea, so this would be perfect!

What a great dispenser! I try to encourage my kids to drink lots of water, but especially in the summer.

Jaime June 12, 2014 - 1:48 pm

I remember my mom had a water cooler in our house when we were growing up. This is fantastic, and would definitely encourage me to drink more water in the summer.

Carly June 12, 2014 - 2:37 pm

Whoa, I love this! It would look really nice in a kitchen!

Beth@FrugalFroggie June 12, 2014 - 3:47 pm

What a great and convenient way to get some water. Luckily, we are a water drinking family so that would get some use for sure.

Kecia June 12, 2014 - 4:49 pm

I have considered getting a water dispenser for our home. My 3 year old loves getting water from the “fountain” at my mom’s work. It would be worth it since he usually doesn’t care much for water!

Liz Mays June 12, 2014 - 4:49 pm

There’s something about gadgets and knobs and buttons that make it seem more interesting. It’s just water, but you push a fun lever to get it and it’s “better” water. 🙂

Laura June 12, 2014 - 5:56 pm

We drink a lot of water in our home and are constantly filling up water bottles to take with is. This dispenser looks really cool. It would defiantly be something I would look into more.

Krystal June 12, 2014 - 5:59 pm

What a cool kitchen gadget! I could see this being very useful in our house!

Kathy June 12, 2014 - 8:05 pm

I would love having the option to get hot water quickly. I love this!

Carly from The Puzzled Palate June 12, 2014 - 8:11 pm

I might have to get one of these once my kiddos get a bit older. Right now, they would probably just drain it onto the floor!

Brett Martin June 12, 2014 - 9:44 pm

Fancy! This looks really nice and refreshing.

Jenn @ The Rebel Chick June 13, 2014 - 4:31 am

That’s a nice model! I like that it does hot and cold, and that mini fridge is great!

Christie June 13, 2014 - 6:04 am

That mini fridge option would be fun to have! We drink water all the time here, so it would be used daily

Anne - Mommy Has to Work June 13, 2014 - 6:48 am

These have come a long way. I love the sleek design.

Jennifer June 13, 2014 - 7:05 am

I definitely want to get a water dispenser once the kids are a little older. I think I would constantly find puddles in the kitchen if we got one now. lol

StacieinAtlanta June 13, 2014 - 8:29 am

Is that a fridge in the bottom? Neat! We drink a ton of water in our house, but I’m afraid my kids would just play with a water cooler and make a mess lol.

Tracey June 13, 2014 - 8:30 am

This is both handy and stylish! I want one now.

Rosey June 13, 2014 - 9:54 am

My son would love this! We have well water and buy jugs of water, this would be way more convenient. I think I’ll nonchalantly mention it to hubby and see if he’s in agreement. 😉

Erica June 13, 2014 - 10:58 am

I absolutely love this! It would be perfect for my family! I’m going to go check out their website.

Penelope Guzman (NY Blogger) June 13, 2014 - 11:10 am

That looks so neat! I actually love NewAir, I have a portable AC from them and it’s awesome.

Debra June 13, 2014 - 11:25 am

I love that it has a little fridge down below! We have a water dispenser in our fridge – but this would be great to keep in our rec room!

Danielle @ We Have It All June 13, 2014 - 12:45 pm

Oh I really like that dispenser, it look much nicer than the generic one we have. I like the extra piece on the hot water, that’s great to have.

Family Travel Blogger June 13, 2014 - 12:45 pm

Our home has a lot of minerals in our water. It doesn’t taste that great so we prefer purified.

Kelsey Apley June 13, 2014 - 3:28 pm

That is the fanciest water dispenser I have ever seen! What a beauty, I totally want one of these!!!

Angela S June 13, 2014 - 3:49 pm

That is oh-so cool. I am loving the mini fridge on the bottom. It doesn’t look it takes up all that much space either.

Joanna Sormunen June 13, 2014 - 4:18 pm

That looks like a really cool water dispenser. I don’t have one but we have a water purifyier.

Lucero @We Are Earthformed June 13, 2014 - 7:48 pm

I’m glad you know have an incentive to drink water with this cute dispenser. It’s a bit disappointing though that the hot water isn’t hot enough to make tea.

cam | bibs and baubles June 13, 2014 - 10:03 pm

That’s very cool. I’ve never seen one that looked so stylish. I love the hot water dispenser! It’s perfect for making a quick cup of tea.

Amanda June 14, 2014 - 4:32 pm

I think this is really awesome! I don’t like my tea super hot so I might be ok!

Raijean S June 14, 2014 - 9:18 pm

I’m loving this, it would be perfect for my office.

Virginia @thatbaldchick June 15, 2014 - 6:48 pm

I can think of several places I would love to see the Newair Water Dispenser! What a great device.

Crystal June 17, 2014 - 9:43 pm

I’m guilty of drinking bottled water way too often. It’s better for the environment and my budget to fill reusable water bottles. This seems like a great way to do that.

Theresa @ Faith and Family Reviews June 18, 2014 - 6:41 pm

We’ve never had one of these (we have well water here) but at the town house we looked into it.

Marcie W. June 23, 2014 - 4:24 pm

I would love to own our water dispenser. Right now we rent our cooler for $5 per month through our distributor and that expense certainly adds up.
