Roomorama

by TerriAnn

Are you tired of those standard economy hotel rooms? I am but that’s usually all we can afford. If we are really splurging, we might spend $125/night, but even that will only score us a two-star chain hotel. That usually means a generic room with no amenities and somewhere on the outskirts of town. Our only requirement is that it is clean but what can you expect from cost-cutting hotels?

I have recently been introduced to another option. Warning: when you see the screenshots on Roomorama you will want to book your next vacation immediately. At least that was my first reaction.

Roomorama connects individual property owners with prospective short-term renters. Whether you are looking for a weekend getaway or a month-long retreat, rooms and suites to fit your needs and style can be found.

I love the ease of navigating the site. Especially when families are traveling with their children, we need to see right away how many separated bedrooms there are, the specific beds included, and max number of occupants. There’s even an option to choose a place that is children friendly or allows pets. You can also narrow your search by amenities such as provided linens/towels, laundry, pool, or free cleaning.

Can’t find an exact fit? Then post a ‘Shout Out’. Send a message with the specifics you are looking for and need and hosts can contact you to make an offer. Current shout outs include lodging in Boston, Chicago, and Rome. Members (free) can also benefit from the Perks program to save up to 60% off local businesses and services.

Since I live 20 minutes from San Francisco and 30 from San Jose, I’ve never really stayed at any local hotels. That meant that I had no suggestions to friends or readers of where to stay in the Bay Area. Now I can direct them to all the variety available at Roomorama. I have quite a few on my wish-list for the next ‘date’ with my husband.

I love this intro video:

Cute, right? Easy, huh? So, Instead of being ‘just a place to sleep’, let your lodging be a part of and enhance your vacation experience!

I just returned from my vacation and booked my accommodation through Roomorama. So glad to see this post as I think more people should try out peer-to-peer rentals, it’s an awesome way of finding accommodation while on vacation. I can skip the expensive and overbooked hotels now!

Also, my host was really really nice – she gave me tips on the best places to eat and where to go. I felt like a true Londoner with all her tips! Will definitely use Roomorama again on my next travel. Cheers!

I’ve never heard of this but it sounds like a great alternative

I think I’d like to use it for a larger family getaway or a special vacay. I hadn’t heard about it either but they seem very popular!

I have never heard of this site but I’m so glad I found this post! My husband and I are planning on renewing our vows next summer at the beach. We don’t want to put all of our guests up at a crummy hotel. This would be a much better alternative. Off to bookmark their site.

How exciting – congrats! Yes, this would be a much nicer solution for such. Hotels can get so expensive!

I’ve never heard of Roomorama before this post but what a great idea. I’ve been trying to get my husband to take us to London but the prices are ridiculous! Now that I have a better option perhaps I can get him over there soon

Haha, you’ll need all the extra you can get to afford those British pounds 🙂

I’ve actually never heard of them before but from the sound of it, looks like it will be worth looking into.

Me neither but there were a ton of great places when I searched locally in San Francisco.

This is the first I’d heard of them, as well. But will definitely be checking them out.

It’s always fun to discover new services 🙂

What a coincidence- my colleague was just telling me about such a service but I wasn’t entirely sure about staying in someone else’s home. However I did a quick search on Roomorama and found this article, along with many others, and I’m quite keen on using their services for my next travels. Their website is really easy to use too, and I love that they have partnerships with events so that I know what to catch if I’m in the city at that time too.

PS: The video is really handy for people like me who haven’t heard of such a service before!

Am so excited to travel now, hope everything goes well. Great job Roomorama!

So glad to have you here, Paul. Yes, it seems like a great service and much more reliable than a classified ad in the paper. I actually didn’t realize about the event, thanks for pointing that out so I can check later. Glad I could help clear up some confusion for you!

I’ve never heard of this before, but I definitely plan to check it out. I like that you can find reasonably-priced alternatives to cheap hotels.

It’s a unique idea. I hope to try it soon 🙂

My friends and I found out about them via Twitter – we were searching for a place to stay and they contacted us almost immediately, I don’t even know how they found my tweet but their efficiency is amazing. We’re going to NYC and I can’t wait to try out our apartment. Way cheaper than costly hotels in NYC too. Hope we have a great stay with them, then it’ll be short-term rentals from now on and goodbye hotels!

Cookies & Clogs July 19, 2011 - 11:36 am

Wow – let me know how your experience goes! I have not yet had the chance to use their services so I’m really interested to hear what you think!
