2011-2012 Curriculum

by TerriAnn

I can’t believe it’s already time to start school again. Another year means another new curriculum. This is what I’m going with this year as my daughter goes into the fifth grade . . .

Language Arts: K12 – There are A LOT of books, even for just this one subject, but so far my daughter likes it. There’s a full schedule already created and clear instructions for the parent. We do need to log in each day but only to record what was done.

Spelling: Soaring with Spelling and Vocabulary – My daughter enjoyed this so much last year so I ordered the materials for this grade. There is already a spelling and vocabulary section included in the K12 program, though,so I am not sure if we will be using this or not.

Math: Singapore Math – So far Singapore has been working out for us, though more has been required on my part to make sure key concepts are understood. Math is my daughter’s least favorite subject so I may get a math tutor this year to see if they can help her enjoy it more.

History: Story of the World – After trying various social studies/history textbooks, I decided to go with this series again. My daughter enjoys the stories and really seems to grasp the lessons. Plus, the suggested activities are clever and, for the most part, fairly easy to execute.

Science: California Science, Macmillan/McGraw-Hill – I still love this series but last year was a bit dry. We did more worksheets than experiments so I hope to reverse that this time.

What are you using this year?

I didn’t realize you were homeschooling. How do you do it all, and do it all so well?

Miss you!

Haha – I don’t! Which is why I’m trying to spend the energy I have on the most important things 🙂
