Almost every day, if I can get just a few minutes to myself, I like to play a mobile game on my phone. For the past few months I have been enjoying the free app, Best Fiends by Seriously. Imagine my surprise when I was contacted by a blogging network to “try out” the app and write about it! Seriously (pun intended)?! My surprise at the perfectly-timed offer was only topped by that of the network when I told them I was on level 162 already (now I’m on level 189)!
Best Fiends Free Mobile Game App
I actually downloaded Best Fiends quite a while ago for my daughter. The bright, happy animation looked promsing and it seemed like an ideal fit as she loves both bugs and anything related to super heroes. I remember her cracking up at what the characters looked like when they “evolved,” or leveled up. Her interest waned when it became a bit too hard for her and she moved onto something else.
When I reached the same point with the game I was playing at the time, I decided to give Best Fiends a try. I’ve been hooked since! It’s pretty odd that I’m now the one showing Munchkin which new characters have been unlocked 😛 Best Fiends is part puzzle, part RPG, and all sorts of fun.
Best Fiends vs Slugs
The storyline behind Best Fiends is quite silly but it totally works for this game.
Meet the Best Fiends; these little guys are all that’s left after the Slugs rampaged across the land, rounding up their families and glooping up the countryside! Now, in a desperate race against slime, they need to grow up and level-up fast, to unlock awesome new powers that will help them build a team capable of taking down the Slug Army.
Best Fiends App Review – Gameplay
As shown above, the gameplay is very simple – connect like elements and try to meet the requirements for each level within a set number of moves. To progress in the game and defeat each challenge, you can collect power-ups to grow the characters and their slug-fighting attacks.
Temper, the tiny but brave mite, is the first playable character. Many other bugs can be unlocked throughout the game, each with their own goals and attacks patterns. Best Fiends also supports Malaria No More. So, playing Edward the non-bloodsucking and donated allows you to help too.
When I’m stuck on a level for while, I can used the points that are continually accrued to help and sometimes additional moves are given. A somewhat newer feature is the Fiend of Fortune wheel that can be spun every 12 minutes for more power-up extras.
Each level requires a certain amount of energy points and these replenish over time. That basically works out to about 5-6 lives per sitting. Best Fiends is easy enough for kids to enjoy playing but levels get increasingly harder for the more avid gamer. I love that there’s a good amount of increasing difficulty without being mind-numbingly impossible though.
Best Fiends on iOS, Android, and Kindle
Best Fiends is free to download in the Apple App Store (iOS), Google Play (Android), and on Amazon (Kindle). The game does offer in-app purchases. I have been able to play fine without additional purchases but I’ve been playing at a fairly leisurely pace and don’t mind waiting for items to be collected and replenished.
Can you get in beat the slugs and saving the land of Minutia?
