I love shoes but, unfortunately, most shoes don’t love me. Even at 34 years old I find myself more concerned with how a shoe feels than how it looks. No Louis Vuitton heels for me! That doesn’t mean I’ll settle for just any shoes. Dansko has melded comfort and style in their new fall line to appease those fashion-conscious consumers with sensitive tootsies.
Dansko Pearl Slingback Clogs
Getting ready for the cooling weather, I decided to go with the Dansko Pearl clogs from the Monaco collection.
These shoes are a bit less bulky than the traditional stapled clog style and feature a slingback. I thought this was a rather unique combination, one I liked. Due to the shape of my heel/ankle, the sling back fits my foot better and stays on nicely. It also gives me the versatility to wear them with or without socks/tights. Seasons here in the San Francisco Bay are not so clear cut so one day it may be sunny and warm while the next has crisp, penetrating breezes.
The footbed has a pretty high arch that can take some getting used to. After being on my feet for several hours, though, the soles of my feet never hurt. However, the stiff leather uppers would sometimes rub against my smaller toes if I didn’t use some kind of sock or nylon. With tights they’re great but I need to buy some of those half socks to use (the ones that only cover the top part of your foot).
The Dansko Pearl clogs are supportive and of high quality materials. I’m still not totally sold on them but it could be that I just need to break them in a bit more. I am happy to say that my feet feel nice and toasty in the shoes but the slingback offers some needed air circulation. The fit is more secure than a regular mule but more snug than the full-clog version of this style. The design won’t win any positive red carpet reviews but they have a clean, finished look that goes with jeans, slacks, or skirts. I’m hoping to get much more use out of these in the coming months.
